Thanks a lot, very detailed and good analysis in that link. I always get stuck choosing a weapon class...this is for a Fighter not kit to play through the series. Kind of reminds me of Friar Tuck. Wth kind of statement is 'most people don't play ToB'?? So once you reactive your fighter levels, you'll be able to put your mage proficiency points into a 4th for longswords, or something else if you want. 2h swords would be much more simple but apparently clearly inferior in terms of damage. BORING! I'm wondering with the dual class, say I dual my Kensai at 9, it says that Kensai gets +1 attack damage and -1 THAC0 every 3 level if I remember well. I was planning on doing a fighter/mage also, and focusing spells on buffs, leaving my single class mage focused on damage spells. As for weapon proficiencies, I was going to do two weapon fighting with dagger and short sword. What about Paladin? People seem to agree overall about Flail of Ages to be the best MH weapon and Belm to be the best OH. It looks like you're new here. Pick an NPC, strip 'em down and then proceed to kick ass with your other 5 fully equipped characters! 5th lvl spells are very effective, it's not likely to be as hard even as getting your initial Kensai XP was for heaven's sake. Most people nab what, ~7m XP per party member on an entire playthrough without grinding? I might as well just have an added party member for that. I think it might. This is just personal opinion, but I believe 2H to be stronger in BG1, and Dual Wield to be stronger in BG2. That counts as having a naked non-casting character right? my personal choices would be: BTW if dual-wielding, make sure you always have the best weapon in main hand, as the off-hand always only gets one attack, Also be careful when backstabing - the backstab is made with the fastest weapon, so make sure this is the one in your main hand, to avoid the off-hand penalty. I would put the future pips longswords and TWF. Unfortunately, I am playing on an iPad so I'm not sure how easy it would be to try to modify the game through downloading another programme (not very easy I suspect, especially if you're not very tech savy like me). I was a bit confused for a minute, then realized we were saying the same thing. in the U.S.A. and other countries, and are used with permission. Atari and the Atari logo are trademarks owned by Atari It seems duals are more popular for this combination, although if you want to run as an elf I suppose it is the only choice. BioWare, the BioWare Infinity Engine and the BioWare logo are Ah, I had totally not realised that you could use later level mage proficiency points against your old fighter skill slots once your fighter abilities are reactivated! I would rather play with Katanas for a Kensai (or longswords or bastard swords) but I think that I might get screwed over late game if I put my points into this as mobs will resist the damage type and the weapons aren't strong enough to land attacks on some of the stronger enemies from what I read. Studios logo are trademarks of Interplay Entertainment Corp. Baldur's Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, Contrary to popular opinion, there *are* good long swords in BG2: Dark Dreams of Furiae - a new module for NWN:EE! Dual wielding longswords and scimitars? However using two weapons would also logically increase my dps. What do you guys recommend? So for my initial 4 points how about? Kensai mage is inherently a powergamey build that largely disregards RP, as what sword saint abandons his sword for ANY length of time? Good luck backing that statement up!How does this have nothing to do with Kensai vs Berserker exactly?? Otherwise, I guess my proficiency points on Kensai are fine and I thought that since Flail of Ages is so strong, that I might only get it by the end of SoA but if you can get it not too late, then I guess I'd stick to flail for Grand Mastery. I assume I should get a mix of slashing, crushing, and ranged weapons. Crushing weapons (maces, war hammers, clubs, flails, morning stars and most staves) don't have a penalty against them. If you don't, you risk having the debuff trigger during your next fight once the rage ends. Also something to think about is that a lot of the tougher NPC enemies use plate mail or full plate mail which slashing weapons get a -3 and -4 penalty to hit against. The problem with a dual in BG1 is that you spend pretty much the whole of the game as a fighter only, unless you dual at Level 3, but then you're stuck with.
