How do you make the best decision when there are no correct decisions? They are invaluable for the person that they are shaping with the learning, the success and the failure, and the learning from the failure. In recent years, many school districts have had to make the difficult choice to cut art programs (drama, music, visual arts, photography, etc. I exhaust myself trying to get them to see that its about creative problem solving, design skills, flexibility, observation, ingenuity, work ethic, etc etc etcthings used in everyday life and valuable in basically every field of work they could ever hope to find themselves in! Mind you we have to cover the same amount of grade level benchmarks and produce art work as well. And while their children are delighted, adults are distracted from the problem at hand. Core skills are valuable to them because they get to apply them in meaningful situations. But the experience they generate, if properly cultivated and pushed through to its maximum effect, is wonderful Art driven by creativity.
