It must be remembered that at that time Paul had been adopted as a primary authority by the Gnostic heretics. The Antichrist – he professes the Catholic view of the antichrist in his Letter to the Philippians Chapter 7. Amen.” Martyrdom of Polycarp Chapter 14. Deification of Christians after the resurrection was taught by the early leaders of the Church, including Polycarp. St Augustine, an early supporter of Millenarianism, later rejected it as being incompatible with the Church’s teaching that there will be only one universal resurrection from the dead followed immediately by the final judgment. Limbo was not taught by Polycarp. Christmas was not observed by Polycarp nor any professing Christ prior to the third century, or ever by those holding to early teachings – not only does this commit the fallacy of gratuitous assertion, but St. Polycarp says nothing about whether or not Christmas existed. Saint Polycarp, (flourished 2nd century; feast day February 23), Greek bishop of Smyrna who was the leading 2nd-century Christian figure in Roman Asia by virtue of his work during the initial appearance of the fundamental theological literature of Christianity. Lent was not observed by Polycarp – this is a fallacy of gratuitous assertion because it is asserted without providing any evidence. With all that Catholic stuff, why don’t these guys who like St. Polycarp so much join the Church he was in??? He waves his hand at the entirety of the stadium, filled with “lawless heathen,” and declares, “Away with the Atheists!” Mic drop. The Catholic Church still teaches this today. This was one reason he was greatly revered as a teacher and church leader. “Away with them,” while we stand firm in Christ. Federal judicial nominees are censured by senators for allowing their religious beliefs to live too “loudly within” them. The Catholic Church still keeps both of these Holy Days to this day. They ask: “But what harm is it to say, ‘Lord Caesar,’ and to offer sacrifice, and so forth, and to be saved?” Polycarp, unwilling to betray God, flatly refuses this invitation. Liberal media pounces on any Christians—be they Chip and Joanna Gaines or Karen Pence—who stray from the radical LGBTQ orthodoxy imposed on American society. As an old man, he was the bishop of the Church at Smyrna in Asia Minor (present-day Turkey). (Like St. Polycarp, we tend to use the word “glorification” today rather than “deification,” but it’s the same concept so long as you understand that the blessed in heaven get to Share the divine nature, but do not become worthy of adoration as God.) Easter per se was not observed by the apostolic church, and Polycarp fought against it. These letters possess a 2nd-century vocabulary and style that are characteristic of Polycarp. Thus dies an amazing early Christian martyr. The two men could not reach agreement on a common date on which to celebrate Easter, so they agreed that Rome and Asia Minor would follow different practices in this regard. Polycarp was a personal disciple of the Apostle John. Born around 70 A.D., in what is known today as Turkey, Polycarp was a disciple of John the apostle. The Ten Commandments were observed by…Polycarp…in the order that the Continuing Church of God claims they are in – this is a fallacy of gratuitous assertion because it is asserted without providing any evidence. Military Service was not allowed for true early Christians like Polycarp. Unwilling to help maintain the Roman civic-religious balance, they were, quite ironically, branded as atheists. Passover was kept on the 14th of Nisan Polycarp. One example is “The Catholic Church has always been anti-science.” No evidence is provided, just a gratuitous assertion. St. Polycarp also indicated that it was okay to celebrate it when the pope did, which was not on the 14th of Nisan but always on the nearest Sunday to that. Also, he cites the Book of Tobit as Scripture in Chapter 10 of his Letter to the Philippians, so this is evidence for Catholicism. The second-century bishop Irenaeus of Lyon says of him: “He conversed with John and many others who had seen Jesus Christ, the words he had heard from their mouths.”. There he is soon arrested, betrayed by a servant who is tortured by Roman police. Polycarp’s Letter to the Philippians contains a classic formulation in which he refutes the Gnostics’ argument that God’s incarnation in, and the death and Resurrection of, Christ were all imaginary phenomena of purely moral or mythological significance. Polycarp’s Letter to the Philippians is doubly important for its early testimony to the existence of various other New Testament texts.
